Located just a short walk from the beach and the ferry terminal in Ouistreham, and 5 minutes from Pegasus Bridge, the Atlantic Wall Museum is housed within the former German Army headquarters in charge of the batteries to the west of the River Orne. This tower made of 5 thousand tonnes of concrete and steel is quite unique. Looming above the Riva-Bella villas from a height of 17 metres, it has been totally redeveloped and restored to its original state, as it was on 6 June 1944. Over its six floors, you can discover all its rooms, which have been rearranged to represent their specific wartime functions, the machine room, the filter room, dormitory, pharmacy, infirmary, weapons room, ammunition store, map room, signal room, switchboard, observation post equipped with a telemeter, etc. Another area was reserved for elite troops and their special equipment to defend the Altantic Wall. You can also admire the PA 30-31, the original assault barge that was restored and used as a Landing Craft M in Steven Spielberg's 5 Oscar-winning film Saving Private Ryan.
