Located between Caen and Ouistreham, the Château de Bénouville was built by Claude Nicolas Ledoux. It is the property of the Calvados Council.
The castle, built in the 18th century, is among the most innovative examples of French Neoclassicism (18th century).
Nestling in the heart of an immense garden, the castle is somewhat reminiscent of the White House.
It also houses the European Institute of Gardens and Landscapes. A series of conferences on the subject of parks and gardens are organised all year round. Further information at: www.europeangardens.eu .
Exhibition in 2016: "La Normandie des jardins" (The Normandy of gardens).
