Aux Régals de l'île Benoist et la spéciale de Courseulles

N0012NOR014V533IUV

Description

The Benoist family has been farming oysters for generations. Established since the 1950s, this family from Courseulles is proud of its "Courseulles special", a variety of oysters grown on the table in the waters of the English Channel and matured in the clear water beds just a stone's throw from Juno Beach, the beach of the Canadians.

Each year, the Benoists produce around 60 tonnes of oysters. They sell them direct from their shop Aux Régals de l'île and ship them all over France and neighbouring countries. Take a look around the shop, where you'll also find a wide range of shellfish, available by the piece or on a seafood platter, which can be enjoyed during opening hours all year round, overlooking the park.

At the Restaurant de l'Ile, Benoist's son Sébastien offers innovative cuisine in a warm atmosphere. The family oyster is on the menu, of course! Round, fleshy, with little iodine and a slight nutty flavour, the Courseulles special can be eaten raw with a squeeze of lemon, poached, or warm with a few spices... it all depends on the chef's mood! On the walls, a text and a few photos recall the family history. In summer, take advantage of the small terrace overlooking the ponds.
