Located in the immediate vicinity of the D-Day Landing beaches, the Mémorial de Caen visitor centre is among the essential sites focusing on the Battle of Normandy and 20th century history.
From the start of the Second World War to the end of the Cold War, the exhibitions of the Mémorial de Caen recount the terrible story of the 20th century. In constant renewal for ten years, it is today at the heart of reflection on the place of history in our societies. During your visit, you'll discover the various stages of the Second World War, from the rise of fascism, to the Holocaust, to the Normandy Landings. Various films offer you a comprehensive and varied tour. A space is also dedicated to the cold war and temporary exhibitions. A priceless photographic testimony: discover the Patrick Chauvel collection exhibition! This permanent, free and unguided exhibition retraces the career of the great reporter present at the conflicts that broke out across the world over the last 50 years. A must-see! An unprecedented visual and auditory experience to understand our shared European history with the film "Europe, Our History", screened in 360° (screening included in museum admission). In 2024, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings and the Battle of Normandy, the Mémorial de Caen will present an exhibition dedicated to the United States of America. Audioguides available in French, English, German, Spanish, Italian and Dutch.
