Visit an underground former slate quarry in the heart of Normandy, between Caen and Vire.
The Souterroscope des Ardoiseries is a unique site in Calvados: over this underground tour, you will discover the former slate quarry, hollowed out in the 19th century in Caumont l'Éventé, in the heart of the Normandy Bocage. Your visit is guided by the light and sound effects as you play the role of a miner discovering the water table. A brand new digital animation brings your tour to a close, highlighting the minerals and the technical aspects of the miners’ trade. Make sure you bring warm clothing, for the underground temperature is around 12°C. Restaurant, souvenir shop. Guided tour in French or English lasts: 1 hour. Closed in December and January.
