New film, entitled, ‘The 100 days of the Battle of Normandy’. Images projected on nine screens and drawn from British, Canadian, German, American and French archives. The long-awaited confrontation was prepared on both shores of the Channel. Then, despite unfavourable weather conditions, came the dawn of 6 June 1944 - the very first step towards newfound freedom for Western Europe. From the landings on 5 beaches stretching from Manche to Calvados, to the tragic bombings over Le Havre on 12th September, the Battle of Normandy lasted 100 days. Relive the events over 20 intense minutes of history! For your comfort and convenience, our reception area has been totally redeveloped: maps, the chronology, events and the toll of the Battle of Normandy are presented. A few British military displays from the Mémorial de Caen visitor centre collections are also presented. The film was produced by Tempora and the Mémorial de Caen visitor centre. It was supported and funded by the Normandy Regional Council.
