The most westerly of the Calvados beaches, it gained its fame during the seabathing vogue, when the town was referred to as Grandcamps les Bains.
The benefits of the sea are now for all to enjoy and you can try sea wading, a modern activity, on your own or in the company of instructors from the Cap 21 sailing school, over one of their sea wading outings. You can also simply choose to relax and watch the ebb and flow of fishing boats and pleasure boats. For indeed, Grandcamp-Maisy is both a marina and a fishing port, renowned for its fine scallops. During the spring tides, the area is reputed as a great spot for shellfish gathering and your kids can learn to tell the difference between a shrimp and a prawn, whilst abiding by applicable rules and keeping watch over tide times. A host of water sports are yours to enjoy with the sailing school which proposes: catamaran, windsurfing, stand-up paddling and schooner sailing, etc. Practical information: You will find car parks in the vicinity of the beach. During the months of July and August, a lifeguard service is in place 7 days a week. Shower and WC on site. The children’s playground can be accessed from the beach.
