The ‘Jardin des Simples’, or Simples’ Garden, in Caen, offers a fascinating insight into medieval plants for medicinal and other applications. The garden is located within the walls of Caen Castle. It is inspired by early medieval gardens and reunites over 90 labelled plants - for medicinal use but also for subsistence and other applications, such as dye plants and cereals - that were grown and consumed or used in the Middle Ages. It offers parents a great opportunity to give initiate their children into medicine in the Middle Ages.
