The Falaises des Vaches Noires are located on the Normandy coast in Calvados, between Villers-sur-Mer and Houlgate. This natural site, stretching over 3 miles, bears witness to Normandy's geological history.

From a distance, the rocks covered with seaweed are said to resemble black cows, hence the name given to these cliffs.

The site is listed by the French Ministry for Environment, thanks to the wealth of its fossils and geological heritage.

Throughout all school holiday periods, and on extra dates in the summer subject to tides, the Géo-Paléo-Archéologique association in Houlgate organises discovery tours of the "Falaises des Vaches Noires" (Black Cow Cliffs).
