CAPAC (the committee for 'friends of the outdoors' in Calvados) saw the day in 1960 in the port of Dives-sur-Mer in order to promote canoeing, kayaking and sailing. Having met with success, in the 1970s, this group of friends went on to become the largest sailing school in the estuary.
In 1990, CAPAC took a new direction by creating a traditional sailing branch whose objective remains the preservation of maritime heritage in Calvados and the restoration of vintage sailboats. The volunteers of CAPAC naturally concentrated on boats that once made up the fleet of traditional fishing boats that could be found harboured in Dives-sur-Mer in days gone by. Traditional fishing, sailing and keelboats are once more in their element, participating each year in vintage boat rallies with their crews of volunteers. During a 2hr trip out to sea, you'll get a real taste of what traditional sailing is all about.
