Heritage European Days: Opening of Notre-Dame de la Visitation Church in Blonville-sur-mer

The association of the friends of Our Lady of the Visitation opens the doors of the church for the Heritage Days. This church already has a long history of almost a thousand years behind it! Its history is inseparable from that of Blonville-sur-Mer. Its construction further inland may seem surprising today, but the population of Blonville-sur-Mer was then mostly rural and the coastal edge seemed inhospitable to them with the marshland being much more extensive than today.
In 1859, the archaeologist Arcisse de Caumont gave a precise description of the church today. It is oriented East-West, as for all the churches. What seems to be the oldest are the bases of the bell tower and the choir, dated from the 11th and 13th centuries. It is likely that the primitive building occupied the present choir and bell tower. This ensemble was completed at the end of the 15th century by a large nave. This enlargement took place after the end of the Hundred Years' War.

Visitors will be able to discover an exhibition of lithurgic clothes.
