The medieval city of Bayeux is a genuine history book in its own right ...

From the Notre Dame Cathedral, a masterpiece of Norman Roman and Gothic art, to the famous Bayeux Tapestry, listed on Unesco’s Memory of the World register and bearing fine witness to the prosperous Duchy of Normandy.

Bayeux was the first French town to be liberated in June 1944 and is the ideal gateway to the landing beaches and the many sites associated with D-Day. Take a trip to the Battle of Normandy Memorial Museum where the course of events is retraced in detail.

And don’t forget to take the time to stroll through Bayeux’s narrow paved streets in the historic town centre and admire its many 17th and 18th century town houses.

Things to do:
– the market on Saturday morning – where producers from the Bessin area are proud to present an array of Normandy’s finest specialities!
– the medieval fair in July
– the cathedral rendez-vous in July and August offer spectacular monumental image projections.
